- Who are we?
C-CAM is a new Group of the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) (Jan 2010) aimed at serving Gloucestershire and the adjoining locality, and in particular the area of Cheltenham and the Cotswolds (as far as Cirencester and across towards Stow and Moreton) and north to Evesham.
The Group has been set up from a core of experienced IAM Observers and Senior Observers and other like minded motorcyclists to form a group with an emphasis on advanced motorcycling. We meet on at the Gupshill Manor, just heading south out of Tewkesbury on the A38 on the third Tuesday of every month, except December when we have a Christmas dinner.
- What are our aims?
The primary aim of the Group is to enhance rider skills, this is be achieved by providing guidance of Associate Members towards the IAM test and then ensuring that further development is available. Observer training forms one way of developing rider skills, however it is recognised that this route is not for all people and so other options will be available. These include the opportunity for post-test observation, slow riding opportunities and possibly participation in rider skills days and track days (rider skills rather than racecraft!). All activities are on a voluntary basis – the Group will provide opportunities, not enforced requirements.
The Group develops social activities and supports local motorcycle activities and rider improvement programmes (such as Bikesafe).
- How does the group work?
The Group provides a social atmosphere at regular Group meetings, where discussion of riding matters will be encouraged. These take place in a pub, with food available so that meetings can take place in a convivial atmosphere. All Group rides will follow IAM recommendations (as provided in their publication on Group Riding). Ride-outs to specific locations, or short break trips will be arranged if desired by the membership. The primary means of communication will be by e-mail (including regular ‘ezines’ to advise members of activities and other items of interest).
MOST IMPORTANTLY, this is a new Group, formed in 2010, and so everyone has an opportunity to consider what they require from the Group and to help to mould it (subject to the aims described above). Above all, this is a club for all riders who appreciate advanced motorcycling to enjoy together.
- How much will it cost?
Associate membership of the Group can be via the IAM Skills for Life package (which includes 1 years membership of the nominated Group). The membership fee for Full members (and Associate members enrolled in another IAM group) is £15 per annum. Associate members (enrolled in the IAM Skills for Life package) undertaking observed rides will be asked to contribute towards their observers petrol costs. THERE ARE NO OTHER COSTS.
